The Service Center is staffed at hours to accommodate various purposes. Current hours are Mon.-Thurs. 6 p.m.-9 p.m., and Fri. 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  If you want to visit in person to purchase LifeRing Press books or pick up convenor supplies, it’s strongly recommended to phone ahead, 1-800-811-4142. When calling, if the office is unoccupied, the call will be forwarded to the LifeRing cell phone (be patient — it takes a moment), where it will either be answered or a message can be left. Or you can call or text the cell phone direct at 510-207-6097. The office building in which the Service Center is located is itself locked after 7 p.m., so plan on calling again when you get to the front door so you can be let in during evening hours.

The LifeRing Service Center responds to inquiries about LifeRing Secular Recovery, provides LifeRing speakers, helps with starting new LifeRing meetings and growing existing ones, provides LifeRing convenors with literature and other materials, and performs organizational housekeeping functions.  Its mission is “Serve the Meetings.”  The office also houses the shipping division of LifeRing Press.

Further information:

The LifeRing Service Center is located in the 1440 Broadway building, just up Broadway from 14th Street in the heart of historic downtown Oakland, adjoining City Hall Plaza. Look for the Rite-Aid drugstore at the corner; 1440 Broadway is in the next building up Broadway (toward the hills).

The Service Center is a few yards from the Oakland City Center — 12th Street BART stop.  If you are coming from Richmond, Berkeley, or valley destinations, get off at the rear of the train.  If you are coming from Fremont, West Oakland, or San Francisco, get off at the front of the train. Click for BART info.

Practically every AC Transit bus in the East Bay stops at or near 14th and Broadway.  Click for AC Transit info.

Parking during business hours is available at Merchant’s Parking, covering the entire block between 14th & 13th and Webster & Franklin, a block away from Broadway. There are also meters in front of the building and on the side streets.

On Saturdays, there is free parking at the Clay Street garage, directly behind City Hall, across the plaza from the Service Center.
